In Kampala, Uganda, the inaugural Kampala-Kigali exhibition opened with a request to eliminate non-tariff trade barriers and foster closer partnerships between businesspeople in the two nations.

The expo is a premier gathering of Rwandan and Ugandan cultural leaders, entrepreneurs, and brightest minds to celebrate growth, innovation, and harmony.

Ismael Baguma, the assistant commissioner of police and Rwanda’s deputy high commissioner to Uganda assured the exhibitors that his nation is still dedicated to removing any obstacles that impede regional commerce, especially non-tariff ones.

Beyond business, this expo symbolizes something more significant: our people’s perseverance and unity. In addition to transactions, trade fosters connections, mutual learning, value sharing, and the development of a future in which all people can succeed, he stated.

Amb. Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the UN, encouraged the exhibitors to see the event as a chance to forge long-lasting relationships that improve communities and bring about long-lasting change, rather than merely a venue to display their goods.

“Let us give top priority to developing infrastructure that promotes cooperation, lowers trade obstacles, and enables connectivity,” Ayebare stated.

“To prepare our people for the demands of the modern economy, our governments must also invest in mentorship and skill development programs.”

A Rwandan exhibitor who deals with construction supplies and real estate, Eric Byiringiro, claimed that he gained a lot from the show by exchanging ideas with his Ugandan counterparts.

“I built strong relationships with Rwandan peers and met new clientele,” stated Poshia Kirezi, manager of ITOTO Cosmetics, a Kampala-based business.

One of the event’s organizers, Canary Mugume, stated that the event will take place twice a year, with the next one taking place in Kigali in October of this year.

“We felt we should create people-centered events that enhance collaboration among the young entrepreneurs of both countries,” he said, referring to the growth in trade since the reopening of the Uganda-Rwanda border.

By establishing a vibrant, multi-sector platform that fosters trade, innovation, and cooperation, the Kampala-Kigali expo seeks to empower Rwanda and Uganda, according to its organizers.
