The Ghana Premier League, according to Sulley Muntari, is “a mess”

Sulley Muntari, a former midfielder for the Black Stars, has issued a harsh indictment of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), calling it “a shambles” and without a future.
In the 2021/22 season, the 40-year-old, who began his professional career with Liberty Professionals in 2000, made a comeback to the domestic league by joining Hearts of Oak.
Before deciding not to extend his contract, Muntari helped the team win the MTN FA Cup and the President’s Cup during his brief tenure. The former AC Milan and Inter Milan player expressed dissatisfaction with the league’s current situation in an interview with 3Sports.
They are dumping money into the league, which is a huge hole. He stated, “The local league has no future.”
Sulley Muntari cited inadequate amenities, such as unsanitary restrooms, as a major problem.
“The restrooms have an odor. There is no such respect. Not even my laundry was something I wanted done. I would bring it home. Everyone, not just one squad,” he said.
To make matters worse, the Premier League does not currently have a broadcast rights holder or headline sponsor. Muntari played a significant role in Ghana’s World Cup campaigns in 2006, 2010, and 2014. He had a successful career playing for teams like Portsmouth, Sunderland, and Inter Milan overseas.
