The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has instructed shippers to cover the expenses of port delays brought on by equipment malfunctions or system outages.
This comes after reports of lengthy delays in the Port of Tema container delivery and evacuation.
Recurrent scanner malfunctions at MPS Terminal 3 and sporadic issues with the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) have been primarily blamed for the predicament.
GSA underlined in a statement that shippers should not be subjected to such unwarranted expenses.
According to the statement, “no shipper using a port in Ghana should pay for expenditures associated with delays not caused by the cargo.”
For this reason, the GSA has asked all cargo interest holders, consignees, and service providers to report any such costs for review.
“Where it is shown that delays were attributable to systematic failures, refunds would be paid,” the Authority has promised.
In addition, GSA noted that efforts are underway to rectify the issues and committed to collaborating with stakeholders to guarantee effective service delivery.
