Prosper Ogum describes the Ghana Premier League as “defensive in nature.”

Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, has blamed the Ghana Premier League’s defensive style and lack of natural goal scorers for the league’s low-scoring trend.

Following Kotoko’s thrilling 2-0 triumph over the Bibiani Gold Stars, which was the Porcupine Warriors’ fourth straight league victory, Dr. Prosper Ogum discussed the difficulties teams have in getting past defenders and turning opportunities into goals.

He said, “The league is defensive in character.” There has been a problem with goal-scoring. It can be simpler at times if you have players who are naturally good at scoring goals, but sadly, not all of the clubs in the league have these guys.

Dr. Prosper Ogum also gave the league’s teams high marks for their defensive structure, which he says makes it difficult for attackers to score.

“The majority of the teams are capable of excellent defense,” he stated. It gets quite difficult to score when you consider how solid and compact each team’s defensive structure is. Because of this, teams frequently share points rather than win.

Kotoko’s recent play has been outstanding despite these league-wide difficulties, as the team has overcome resilient defenses to win crucial games. Dr. Prosper Ogum’s remarks highlight the league’s overall tactical dynamics while also pointing out areas that need work, especially in terms of goal-scoring ability.
