In a much-anticipated league match, Asante Kotoko will take on Bibiani GoldStars on Friday night at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Given how well both clubs are playing, the matchup is expected to be very important in the battle for the league championship.
Kotoko, who have been on a roll after winning their past three games and snapping a four-game losing streak, is only three points ahead of the GoldStars in second place. The stakes are high as the two teams square off, with Kotoko hoping to extend their winning streak and finish the season atop the table.
Ten months have passed since the clubs’ last meeting, in which Kotoko won 1-0. Albert Amoah, Kotoko’s best scorer, will not be playing for the team because he is concentrating on playing for the Black Galaxies. With seven of Kotoko’s 13 goals this season coming from Amoah, the remaining players, notably newcomer Kwame Poku, will need to step up to fill the void.
With seven victories and six draws so far this season, Bibiani GoldStars will be feeling confident going into this game after defeating Nsoatreman.
They will have a difficult time against the dominant Kotoko team, even though they have a formidable defense that has allowed just seven goals.
Kotoko has won three of their last six meetings since November 2021, while the other two have been in draws.
Kotoko is the favorite due to their recent performance and good head-to-head record, but GoldStars will be keen to maintain their challenge for the top spot.
