On matchday 15 of the Ghana Premier League, the Accra Lions and Hearts of Oak will rekindle their rivalry on Sunday at WAFA Park in Sogakope.
After their historic victory against the Ghanaian giants in Accra last season, the Lions will be looking to defeat their opponents in the competition twice in a row.
Hearts of Oak, who are currently playing better than their regional opponents, must win to maintain their hopes of winning the Ghana Premier League to keep their hopes of winning the Ghana Premier League.
While the Accra Lions traveled to Dormaa to get a crucial point, the Phobians recovered from their loss to longtime rivals Asante Kotoko to upset Berekum Chelsea in Legon last week.
Before Sunday’s meeting, the Accra Lions have only triumphed once in their previous five games.
Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, have only lost once in their last five games, and that was against the Porcupine Warriors.
Both teams will miss their captains because they participate in international assignments. Benjamin Asare of Hearts of Oak and Ali Mohammed of Accra Lions accompanied the Black Galaxies to Nigeria for the CHAN qualifier.
Aboubakar Ouattara will rely on his defensive experience to limit the threat posed by their younger neighbors. At the same time, Lucky Nwafor, the Nigerian striker for the Lions, will be asked to shoulder the goal-scoring burden for the home team.
Hearts of Oak have won six of the seven matches between the two teams, with the Lions securing their lone victory in their most recent meeting.
