Parliamentarians from the Chamber of Deputies will embark on a field trip across the country to evaluate different community development projects and gauge the general well-being of the populace.

Beginning on Sunday, January 26, and ending on February 3, 2025, the action will encompass all four provinces. On February 8 and 9, there will be a second visit to the City of Kigali.

“Our goal is to actively involve our folks to significantly improve their social well-being. We can evaluate the effectiveness of government programs in helping the affected communities and pinpoint areas for improvement thanks to this visit,” said Gertrude Kazarwa, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.

The purpose of the journey is to give MPs a chance to interact with local leaders and communities on a range of topics, such as family dispute resolution techniques, social protection programs, access to financing, savings clubs, the fight against genocide ideology, and Rwandan unity and resilience.

The MPs will also assess the steps taken to resolve the issues brought up by the public during earlier outreach events.

Senators have started their field trips in the meantime, to evaluate the effectiveness of health posts nationwide. The outreach will take place in the City of Kigali and its districts between January 21 and January 30, 2025.

As stated in the Senate’s announcement on January 20, the action intends to assess the accessibility, service quality, and general efficacy of health posts in serving local people.

Senators are required to evaluate at least 60 health posts during the trips and speak with local government and community leaders, especially those in charge of health services and community health programs.

Health posts, the lowest level of Rwanda’s healthcare system, provide basic medical care and illness prevention. They are essential in bringing healthcare closer to the people and lessening the burden on health centers.

The Senate’s review is a step in the process to make sure these facilities fulfill their stated goals of enhancing community access to primary healthcare and tackling issues.
