Match Report for Week 18: Basake Holy Stars 0-0 Hearts of Oak

Basake Holy Stars

A dismal 0-0 stalemate against Basake Holy Stars on Sunday put a stop to Hearts of Oak’s hopes of winning the Ghana Premier League title.

The Phobians created a lot of chances, but they were unable to score, disappointing the supporters.

The visitors started the game with a purpose, ready to recover from their earlier setback. A game of lost opportunities began when Hamza Issah was ruled offside after latching onto a well-threaded pass from Ramzy Yussif.

Michael Ampadu made a vital interception to prevent Prince Tweneboah from taking an early lead as Holy Stars advanced in the match. In the first half, Ampadu’s ball to Issa gave Hearts their finest opportunity, but the forward wasted it.

Just before halftime, Martin Karikari replaced Mawuli Wayo, which gave the game new life, although Wayo missed a sitter right before the half. Hearts experienced further bad luck in the second half when Hussein Mohammed’s injury necessitated an early substitution.

The Phobians missed their opportunities despite late heroics from goalie Benjamin Asare, who stopped Prince Opoku’s curling free-kick.

Holy Stars are still winless in 2024 but six points above relegation, while Hearts are now in fifth place, four points below the top, following the draw.
