Hearts of Oak 1-0 Heart of Lions, Week 19 Match Report

Heart of Lions

With a spirited 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League on Friday, Hearts of Oak got back to winning ways and extended their winning streak to six games.

At the University of Ghana Stadium, the Phobians won all three points thanks to a coolly converted penalty in the second half by forward Mawuli Wayo.

Following their previous matchup with Basake Holy Stars, which ended in a goalless draw, head coach Abubakar Ouattara made a few tactical adjustments to the team.

Kwesi Asmah and Abdul Aziz Adam also made their club debuts after entering as second-half substitutes, while he gave recruit Seth Osei a spot in the starting lineup.

Despite having an equal amount of possession, Hearts had the superior goal-scoring opportunities in the first half.

In the 29th minute, Hamza Issah had a fantastic chance to put his team ahead but missed it.

But the breakthrough came early in the second half when Wayo scored his fifth goal of the season with a confident slott from the penalty spot.

With this significant victory, Hearts moved up to fourth place in the league standings, one point behind leaders Asante Kotoko SC and tied with Lions.

In the meantime, the Lions have been having a difficult time lately, winning only one of their past four games and losing three of them.

They are still in third place and might yet win the championship despite their loss.

To contend for the league crown, the Phobians will now try to build on their current momentum, while the Lions will need to reorganize and rediscover consistency to remain in the running.
