GIBA congratulates Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko for his appointment as NCA Director-General.

Following his appointment as the Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko has received heartfelt congratulations from the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).

On January 22, 2025, the Presidency delivered an announcement that GIBA characterized as a major turning point for the nation’s broadcasting and telecommunications industries.

According to a GIBA statement regarding the appointment, Rev. Ing. Fianko has more than 20 years of experience in the regulatory sector of electronic communications, thus he is well-versed in the field.

It detailed his career, stating that he started at the NCA as a National Service Person and progressed through the ranks to become the Director of Engineering.

According to GIBA, he has consistently shown a significant dedication to the advancement of telecommunications regulation, policymaking, and radio frequency spectrum management.

According to GIBA, Rev. Ing. Fianko will spearhead projects in his new position that will create a vibrant and inventive broadcasting environment in Ghana.

The fact that Rev. Ing. Fianko has worked in the regulatory environment for electronic communications for more than 20 years is a testament to his devotion to the field. He has a strong grasp of radio frequency spectrum management, telecommunication and broadcasting regulation, and policy formation thanks to his experiences as a National Service Person and his different jobs at the NCA, including the Director of Engineering.

In his capacity as Director-General, Rev. Ing. Fianko will play a key role in guiding the legislative framework required to sustain Ghana’s thriving broadcasting industry, encouraging innovation, and tackling the sector’s changing problems. His prior participation in noteworthy projects, like serving as the chair of the African Telecommunications Union Task Group on Rural Connectivity Spectrum Recommendations, demonstrates his dedication to improving industry access and quality.

Additionally, Rev. Ing. Fianko’s academic background, which includes a Master of Philosophy in Applied Business Leadership and Management and a first degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, demonstrates his readiness to handle the challenges of this important position. Furthermore, his work in the community and his role as a Methodist Church minister demonstrate his love of service, which is an important quality as he leads the NCA.
