Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the coach of Kotoko, has blamed the Ghana Premier League’s poor goal totals on the absence of natural goal scorers.
Following Kotoko’s 2-0 victory over the Bibiani Gold Stars, the team’s fourth straight league win, Dr. Ogum made this observation.
Dr. Ogum stated, “Goal scoring has been an issue in the league.”
“It is simpler sometimes if you have people who are naturally good at scoring goals, but sadly, not all of the teams in the league have these players.”
Kwame Opoku of Kotoko is a talented striker, but Dr. Ogum emphasized that the league as a general lacks natural goal scorers. He added that the defensive style of the league—the majority of clubs can play good defense—contributes to the low score of games.
“The majority of the clubs are capable of excellent defense,” Dr. Ogum continued.
“You see a lot of teams sharing points instead of winning because of the consistency and compactness in the defensive structure of all the teams that play in the league, which makes it very difficult to score.”
